Nuestro 88 was inspired by the cultural background of Paul and his wife Evelyn.
Nuestro translates from Spanish to English as 'our' and 1988 was the year of new beginnings for Paul and Evelyn. 1988 was the year that Paul (Filipino) and Evelyn (Nicaraguan) both immigrated to Canada.
Nuestro 88 was designed by bringing both Paul and Evelyn’s culture together to celebrate their journey as one.
Nuestro 88 started with the vision of bringing simple, fresh and authentic Filipino and Nicaraguan cuisine to Kitchener-Waterloo.
Chef and owner Paul Masbad has culminated in a wealth of knowledge and culinary endeavours in Asian and Latin cooking. With over 25 years of experience working at locally established restaurants, our chef is excited to present his vision to all guests by taking them on a taste of culinary journey throughout Asia and Latin America.
Paul's original dishes have made Nuestro 88 the first Asian-Latin infused restaurant in Kitchener-Waterloo.
From the beginning, Nuestro 88 has been dedicated to serving the Waterloo Region with dishes from the Philippines and Nicaragua that are fresh, tasty and unique.
Our menu is built around signature dishes inspired by the Philippines and Nicaragua like Pork Adobo, Ropa Vieja, Chorizo Lumpia and Tostones con Queso. Chef Paul brings his signature touch to some classics like innovating the Canadian poutine into the Pork Adobo mess to incorporate his Filipino roots.
We pride ourselves on delivering the best quality to our guests, all of our ingredients are sourced fresh and locally.
Nuestro 88 captures rich Latin culture with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Our restaurant is decorated with different art pieces from Nicaragua and sets the mood of a fiesta with Spanish music always playing that brings a character-filled environment.
